We are one of the country's premiere sheep breeders
It all started in 1986 with the purchase of two crossbred ewes - one white, one natural colored. They were bought to eat the grass on the new farm. From there it just kept going. First everything had to have babies, then came 4-H and FFA and trying out the show ring. Realizing that improvement was going to be key in accomplishing our goals, that is what we have set out to do.
After having many different breeds, we picked the Polled Dorsets because of their easy lambing abilities, good attitudes and their easy fleshing compared to some of the other breeds we test drove. They have proven to be a great fit. Next came Montadales and then the Lincolns. Then in 2008 Oxfords were added to the mix.
Here at Pettersson Farms we strive to produce top quality animals within all of the breeds that are sound, square, long bodied, have bone, with great style and breed type. We strive for sheep that are three-dimensional and productive. We want our ewes to be great mothers and our rams to be aggressive breeders that breed true. Our goal is to breed sheep that excel in the show ring as well as on the farm.
We have breeding stock of all ages available all of the time as well as high quality fleeces and lamb.
